Ephesians 1:17
Paul prayed in Ephesians 1:17 that God would give believers “the Spirit of wisdom and revelation” so that they might know Him better.
Wisdom is more than knowing what to do—it is knowing what God would have us do and having the courage to follow His direction.
Solomon’s Choice
When Solomon became king, he faced an enormous responsibility. He could have asked God for wealth, long life or victory over his enemies. Instead, Solomon asked for wisdom to lead the people well.
God was pleased with his request and gave him extraordinary wisdom.
Solomon understood something we also need to remember: we cannot successfully navigate life by our own understanding alone.
Every day brings decisions—about our families, relationships, work, finances, opportunities and future. Some decisions may appear right but still not be God’s best for us.
That is why we need the Spirit of wisdom.
Before reacting, pause and pray.
Before making an important decision, seek God’s Word.
Before following popular opinion, ask, “Does this agree with God’s truth?”
And when God gives direction, have the courage to obey.
Practical Steps for Today
Ask for wisdom. Begin your day by inviting God into your decisions.
Slow down before deciding. Not every opportunity requires an immediate answer.
Search the Scriptures. God’s wisdom will never contradict God’s Word.
Listen before speaking. Sometimes wisdom is demonstrated by what we choose not to say.
Walk it out. Wisdom becomes powerful when knowledge turns into obedience.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for being the source of true wisdom.
Give us the Spirit of wisdom and revelation so that we may know You more deeply. Guide our thoughts, conversations, decisions and relationships.
When we are confused, give us clarity. When we are tempted to rush ahead, teach us to wait. When the voices around us become loud, help us recognise Your voice.
Give us wisdom to lead our families, serve our communities, handle our responsibilities and influence others for good.
May we not simply be people who know what is right; give us the courage to walk in what is right.
