Redeeming the Time

Welcome to today’s devotional.
Today’s reflection and prayer is: Redeeming the Time

Scripture

Ephesians 5:15–16 (NIV)
“Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.”

Reflection

Time is one of the most precious gifts God has given us—and yet, it’s one we can never get back once it’s gone. Every sunrise is a fresh reminder that we’ve been given another opportunity to live purposefully for God.

Think of Nehemiah. When he heard that Jerusalem’s walls were broken down, he didn’t waste time in fear or frustration. He prayed, planned, and acted swiftly. In just 52 days, the walls were rebuilt because he recognised the urgency of the moment. Nehemiah teaches us that when we walk in purpose and obedience, we make every moment count for God’s glory.

Redeeming the time isn’t about being busy—it’s about being intentional. It’s choosing prayer over procrastination, purpose over distraction, and obedience over delay. Each day holds opportunities to serve, love, grow, and share Christ, but we must be alert to seize them.

The truth is, time slips away quietly. That’s why God calls us to live wisely—prioritising what truly matters and investing our time in things that have eternal value.

A Practical Step

  • Take a moment today to evaluate how you spend your time. Ask yourself: “Is this activity drawing me closer to God’s purpose or pulling me away?” Then, make one intentional change to align your time with your calling.

Prayer

Father, we thank You for the gift of time. Forgive us for the moments we’ve wasted or spent on things that don’t honour You. Teach us to number our days and use our time wisely.

Help us to be alert to the opportunities You place before us—to serve, to love, to grow, and to make a difference. Strengthen us to focus on what truly matters and to walk in step with Your Spirit each day. May our time reflect our trust in You and bring glory to Your name.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
