Victims want action, child abuse inquiry chair says.

Professor Alexis Jay, who led a seven-year inquiry into child sexual abuse, has emphasized that victims “clearly want action” rather than more inquiries. She believes that the time for additional national inquiries into grooming gangs has passed and that it’s crucial to implement the recommendations from her previous inquiry. The government has announced new measures, including professional or criminal sanctions for those who cover up or fail to report child sexual abuse.

The debate has been intensified by social media interventions from Elon Musk, leading to calls for a new national inquiry. However, Professor Jay argues that this would only cause delays and distract from the necessary actions. The Labour government has rejected calls for a new inquiry, focusing instead on enacting the reforms set out by the Jay Review.
