Light In Our Dwellings

22 And Moses stretched forth his hand toward heaven; and there was a thick darkness in all the land of Egypt three days:

23 They saw not one another, neither rose any from his place for three days: but all the children of Israel had light in their dwellings

– Exodus 10:22

We live in extra ordinary times; a time of global lockdown, and when the lockdown is lifted the world as we know it will never be the same. In all this God is at work for a greater purpose.

History

In the book of Exodus God, through Moses, is working to deliver Israel from bondage and all plagues upon the land of Egypt was a judgement on their gods. Exodus 10:22, the plague of darkness was dramatic show of greatness by God over the prominent Egyptian god Ra, the sun God. The bible says there was darkness so thick they could not see each other.

God at work

During this period a number of things happened. If you read the bible accounts carefully there is evidence that during the time of the plague work stopped for the Israelites and they entered into a time of rest because the land of Egypt was in lockdown.

It seems God often uses rest, isolation and time away from work to advance His purpose in the life of His children.

Israel witnessed the wonders of God and prepared for the day of deliverance to enter into their promise

For Paul, it was when he was imprisoned that he wrote many of his epistles

The apostle John was put on the Island of Patmos where he received the vision of Revelation. He did not die on this island, but God used his isolation on Patmos to download an important part of the Bible for God’s people.

Question: What is the Lord doing in your life at such a time as this? I pray that no one will miss it.

Light in our dwellings

1 Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the LORD rises upon you.

2 For behold, darkness covers the earth, and thick darkness is over the peoples; but the LORD will rise upon you, and His glory will appear over you

– Isaiah 60: 1 – 2

We are the children of light all over this land. I pray that we will not hide our light but show forth our light that those in darkness.
