The Essentials

I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat or this bread, he shall live for ever” (John 6:35, 51)

In mid March Amazon announced they have blocked all non-essentials items from their warehouses to cope with overwhelming demand for household essentials due to the coronavirus pandemic.

IN NORMAL TIMES Amazon will happily deliver almost any item to your doorstep but these are not normal times. Millions are now largely confined to their homes because of the coronavirus pandemic. Many people have turned to Amazon for household staples, groceries and medical supplies in large numbers.

What are Household essentials

Household essentials are items that are required to keep a home running smoothly. These items provide for basic human needs: Foodwater and shelter

As these essentials are needful for times like this, the same principle is true for the life of a believer in whatever circumstances, pandemic or no pandemic.  We must spend time on the essentials or the non-negotiables so that our lives may glorify God.

The non-negotiables as a Christian

One of the non-negotiables is the feeding on the word of God, feeding on the word daily is essential to the healthy Christian life

“Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger . . . I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat or this bread, he shall live for ever” (John 6:35, 51).

The Christian must therefore feed on Christ in the Scriptures every day or else he will not grow strong and develop. The Lord said, “As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me” (John 6:57).

Jesus lived in daily dependence upon the Father and so we must daily eat of Christ in true dependence for sustenance and development. We can only be nourished and sustained by daily feeding upon Christ in the Scriptures.

My encouragement to you

In this season of being at home feed on the word daily.

Prayer

I pray that in feeding on the word, we will develop a deep love for Him and His Word.
